This story is about the death of Nelson Mandela and all the global leaders visiting South Africe for his memorial. This was publised on the 10th of December 2013 by the Daily Mail. This story is hard news due to the amount of news values and treatment values.

News Values

Familiarity - The story is understandable to the audience as most will know who Nelson Mandela was and would feel the same feeling as he was very popular in the UK and the whole world.

Amplitude - The story is huge because it is about the death of a man who changed the lives of millions and who was the former President of South Africa.

Predictable - Nelson Mandela was very ill and old so it was no surprise that he died.

Surprise - Even though Mandela was very ill and old, people would not of expected that he would die that day.

Continuity - Mandela's death was before this story so this has continued and is involving other world leaders, like Barack Obama, into the story. It has also continued from Mandela being ill.

Elite nations and elite people - Nelson Mandela was the former President of South Africa and freed millions of black men, woman and children.

Negativity - It is sad because Mandela has died.

Treatment Values

Visual - The story has a picture of Barack Obama and his wife with Nelson Mandela's wife as if two countries are uniting to draw the reader.

Drama - As a former President who was admired by millions there was a bit of drama. Also we want to know how South Africa and the world are going to cope without such an important person not being here anymore.

Saga - This story has followed on from Mandela's death so it is on going.
